Great inspiration as usual!  

and here's my card

When I first saw the inspiration picture (about 4:00 this afternoon!, Why didn't someone tell  me it's the 25th?) My eye went straight to the green dotted fabric in the background. Secondly, I picked up on the Modern Wood Mat type print on the pumpkin on the right.  Of course the variety of colors are terrific and I had a blast making this little card.  I love every season, but Fall is the best of all for me.

Case Study #62

I love cards by Niki Estes!  I have followed her blog for some time and was delighted when the opportunity came to be inspired by her in this challenge.  What a happy card!  However, my need is for a sympathy card so this is what I came up with.

I created a background design, layered a rectangle,  die cut a floral embellishment, and turned the sketch on it's side.  Looks just like Niki's, right? LOL!!!  I have included a second photo so that you can see the sheen produced by using Perfect Pearls on the background, as well as the gold embossing on the ginko leaves.

I have been invited to honor THREE mothers-to-be this weekend!  Two are from across the country so they get cards with shipment notices in them for the gifts that have been sent to their home addresses.  The other lives near by, so she got a cutesy little tag on her very large package.  (A Diaper Genie is definitely a great gift, don't you think?) 

Most everything is PTI except for Memento Rose Bud ink, (for the sentiment) and  Angel Pink (for stamping the giraffe and sponging over the tag base).  When I started putting it together, it was just too white.

Here are the two cards that will dress up those shipping notices.  The first one is for Nate. (Obviously!) I got to do some things that were really out of the box for me.  I made the background design using three stamps from Polka Dot Basics and two colors of ink.  On the sentiment, I did some selective inking and eliminated "one" from the "Welcome little One" stamp so that it could say "welcome little Nate".  I also watercolored inside  the letters with ink directly from the pad using my Aquapen.

Have you noticed a trend in parents not knowing or not telling the sex of the baby before birth?  I like the anticipation myself.  This next card is for little "Yet to be Identified"...

This concept took place as I started clearing my workspace after the post from Wednesday.  There were assorted scraps and rejects laying around that just begged to be put to good use and this is where they ended up.  Serendipity!!!  

As usual, most products are Papertrey Ink except for the circle die, and scalloped circle die, both from Spellbinders.  The card size is 5 1/4" square so that I can use a 5 1/2 " envelope from PTI.

Make It Monday #37: Layered Mats and Frames

Hello Everyone!

Happy Wednesday evening. This will be a brief post as I am about to join my husband in watching the opener of the World Series tonight.  Since our recent visit to the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York, I am an official baseball fan!  We even went to the theater after our trip to see Money Ball, with Brad Pitt.  Good movie.

This beautiful fall weather inspired me to make a crisp and clean card using the layered mat and frame technique.  The sparkly pink heart is popped up on dimensional foam as is the mat stack #3 frame.  

So, without further ado...

Hi All!  I hope you have had a great weekend-I sure did.  My family and I had a wonderful time at Mt. Magazine State Park.  It's only a two hour drive from our house but we feel utterly away from everything.  It is so peaceful and quiet atop the highest point in the state.  (Just over 2,700 ft.)  We got to enjoy the first fall color and the brilliant sunshine that seems only to happen with this time of the year.  The temperature was perfect and so was the view of the lake in the valley below.  Our grandson enjoyed the hot tub on the balcony wearing his floaties and playing with a styrofoam cup.  Aah, the simple joys of childhood...

Oh yeah, you  stopped by here to see a card, didn't you?  Here it is:

I wish I knew how to make it possible for you to click on the photo and enlarge it in order to see the details of this card!  The leaves are stamped first with red and then stamped again with the Vintage Photo for a little more natural look.  The image and sentiment are "embossed" with my handy dandy Sakura Glaze Pen and the brown mat is dry embossed with the Papertrey Ink Woodgrain Impression plate.  The cardstocks used are Kraft, Dark Chocolate, Pure Poppy and Vintage Cream, all by PTI.  "Thankful" is from a PTI stampset called First Fruits and the tree and leaves are from The Giving Tree, by Gina K.  Inks used are Barn Door and Vintage Photo distress inks, by Ranger and Memento Rich Cocoa.

Color Throw Down #163

I love these bold rich colors, especially for fall.  They really express the season to me.  One of the first things to come to my mind with these warm, first days of fall, is the annual craft fairs that go on all over our area.  Many years ago, when my children were young, I had a very talented friend who made beautiful quilts and I travelled with her to a craft fair to help out in her booth.  The smells, sights, and sounds of that gorgeous weekend in the mountains of northwest Arkansas, will forever be a picture of our friendship and the fun we shared as we raised our children together.  So in a very special way, Cathy, this card is for you.  Thanks for the memories.

I found the hexagon die set to be irresistible! It was all about quilting from the first time I laid eyes on it. (As I have mentioned before, my sewing machine does not come out of its special place on the floor of my closet).  This card is as close to making a quilt as I will ever come!  Admittedly, I enjoyed choosing the patterns, piecing the shapes together and drawing the little stitches; just like a real quilt, only MUCH easier!  You will have to use super hero vision here, but the ivory background has been embossed to look like a quilted backing for my design.

I hope this evokes for you some warm and cozy memory.  If so, will you share it with me?  I'd love to hear about it!

Make -It-Monday, #36 Faux Watercoloring

Hello All!
It's good to be back in Blogland after a month of mojo doldrums.  Thank goodness for such great challenges as this one to get me out of the funk.  This week's challenge is to use a watercoloring technique with regular ink on a stamped image.

This card was a lot of fun to make and I was pleased to try a new color combo. (see details below).  I liked making this one so much, I made a different version of it,  just because I need two birthday cards by next week.  Which do you like better?

I used heat embossing technique here on the larger flowers, and Versamark ink for the dots and smaller flowers. Near the top of the card you can see the sparkle in the dots and small flower centers made with a Sakura Stardust pen.  Love that little pen!
