CASE Study Challenge #75

Hello!  It's a new week and I am glad I did not miss the opportunity to enter the Case Study Challenge #75 with January Muse Jen Rzasa.  I do love her Clean and Simple Style!  

Here is Jen's inspiration card:  

and here is what she inspired me to make:

Both Jen and I chose sentiments from Papertrey Ink's Think Big Favorites, mine is TBF#11.  I stamped it with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and went over it with a Sakura Glaze pen.  The Hearts Border was cut three times, from Raspberry Fizz, Berry Sorbet, and Hibiscus Burst card stocks and attached with 1/8" Scor-tape.  The mat layer is Smokey Shadow, the card base and top layer are Stamper's Select White, all from PTI.  The mat layer is adhered with dimensional foam.

So that's the short and sweet for this Valentine card.  Thanks Jen for the inspiration!

January 2012 Blog Hop

This month, in honor of the New Year, we are challenging you to pick your favorite project from 2011 and share it with all of us. To take it a step further, you are challenged to create a second card that is inspired by the favorite project you select. Your new version of an old favorite could carry over the color scheme, the layout or the stamp sets. We look forward to seeing your best creations from 2011, as well as your first projects from 2012!

Hi There!  
I enjoyed looking back through my cards as I chose which I would use as my favorite project of 2011.  I decided on "Bliss" because I felt my execution of Copic coloring and stamping as well as color choices and layering were well done. I have just never figured out what to do with a card that says"Bliss" on the front!

The card base is  a pre-fold with envelopes from Hobby Lobby  and the images are stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink. A variety of Copic Markers were used to color the flowers.  (Everything else for both cards is from PTI)  The mat layer is Royal Velvet card stock, stamp set used is Year of Flowers: Morning Glories. 

For the remake, I chose the same layout but wanted to try a different approach to Copic coloring.  Maile Belles used Copics on one of her Rosie Posie release projects that made me squeal with delight.   I have been looking forward to giving this a go, so here it is:

I am in love with Rosie Posie and the coordinating dies which I have used here and then layered with dimensional foam.  The peonies were stamped with Sweet Blush Ink then a variety of  Copic Markers were added.  The leaves are stamped with Spring Moss Ink as is the frame and "Mom" from Framed.  The card base is Spring Moss and the mat layer is Berry Sorbet.

Make It Monday #50: Shaker Card

Hello All!
I think the blog fog I have been in for the past two weeks may be lifting. I have never made a shaker card before so this was just the challenge to get me going again.  Thanks Heather for the inspiration!

First of all, I created the "box" by die cutting three layers from PTI Coasters and gluing them together.  Cut another circle from the patterned paper for the back of the box, cut another circle from acetate for the front of the box, and framed it with the stamped circle mounted on the scallop.  

It was fun to use some patterned paper for a change and punching the confetti hearts took no time at all; thanks to Martha Stewart's Confetti Heart Punch.  It's probably difficult to see from the photo, but I used red glitter paper from Recollections, and PTI Raspberry Fizz, Hibiscus Burst, and Sweet Blush card stock for the confetti, repeating the colors of the Bitty Dot Basics and Bitty Box Basics papers mounted on the SS White card base.  Raspberry Fizz Ink for the circular hearts border from 2010 Love Tags, and the Hero Arts sentiment from CL402.  The circle and scalloped circle dies used for the shaker are Spellbinders, and the horizontal Hearts Border from PTI was the finishing detail.  I thought the sentiment was very fitting with "lots & lots" of little hearts in the shaker!  I hope you like my traditional take on the shaker card.  Please leave a comment, I love hearing from you!

CAS-ual Fridays Challenge #34

CFC34: Create a Clean And Simple project using chipboard, for your chance to be a Guest Designer with the Girl Fridays.

Hi there, I'm back with a fun card that "appeared" on my desk last night!  Actually, three parts of projects: 1. I had stamped the new Hero Arts Newspaper Skyline on a card front just to see what it looked like.  2. The red heart was a remnant from the border I had applied to the previous project.  3. I had made a little chipboard label for something else but did not use it.  So I added a little ink and some  adhesive and VOILA! 

It may seem a bit of a stretch to call this a Valentine card, but that's the way I see it.  The sentiment has a bit of a flirty tone, especially paired with the clear embossed red heart.  The thin dark grey line represents a street running through the city.  Inside the card, I will write something like "Of all the people in this great big world, I'm so glad I found you!"  I'm sure you could add a variety of sentiments, but that seems to fit best for me.

Make It Monday #48: Creating Backgrounds with Border Dies

Good Morning!
It's raining cats and dogs right now and I am glad to have a dry, and comfortable place to drink coffee and talk with you about making cards!  There are several challenges I hope to enter this week and one I look forward to every Monday is MIM from Nichole Heady's blog.  Check it out HERE.  The January release preview is under way, so after you see some fabulous new products, scroll down to the video tutorial by Dawn McVey.

Can I just say... I had a blast making this card.  I've never given a lot of thought to Valentine cards.  I make one for my Sweetheart and that's about it.  But I have Valentines on the brain right now and a LOT of stamp sets with which to create them.  It was so fun to mix and match several sets, use the masking technique on many of the tickets and feel as though I had come up with a card that a man would enjoy receiving.  The inside is blank and as Erin Lincoln would say, "you can add something a little racy"!

Good morning!  I feel as though this is the first REAL week of the new year.  So many NEW things starting up for me.  I have started a new bible study class, I'm enrolled in an online card class called Clean and Simple Card Making, Check it out HERE.  I have a ton of new supplies to make cards (thanks to my sweet, supportive family and their generous Christmas gifts) and my husband is working night call for his medical practice all week meaning I have until 11:00 p.m. every night to get inky!  Do I have a wonderful life or what?

Here we go!  I want to share with you today the card that was inspired by the color challenge at CR84FN-(Create For Fun).  I thought these bold colors needed a bold design so I chose an older set from Hero Arts: CL400.  The center photo had me thinking all things Indian and this set includes an elephant, a small paisley, and this huge flower as well as several other very interesting line art images just begging to be colored with Copic Markers.  I used B16, Y38, Y13, and touched up black details with 100. I wanted just a little shimmer (think of the subtle sheen of silk saris), so I added Sakura Jelly Roll Pen: Sky Star over the blue, and Sakura Glaze Pen over the black details as well as the sentiment.  The equally bold sentiment is from Papertrey Ink: Think Big Favorites #7.  The card stocks are also from PTI, Summer Sunrise, Blueberry Sky, True Black and SS White.

Make It Monday #47: 2011 A la Carte

Hello and happy new year to Y'all!  Yes, I am a southerner and today is one of the reasons why I love the south so much.  The sky is utterly cloudless and the outside temperature is 60 degrees.  Even the humidity is low.  (I won't be able to say that in a few months!)  A stampin' buddy is coming over shortly and it's just an all-round great day.  I hope yours is going well also.

In case you are not a regular Papertrey Ink fan, you should definitely take a look at Nichole Heady's blog HERE this week just to see the entire list of previous Make It Monday videos! What a wealth of crafting techniques.  AND it's not too late to join the challenge for this week.  The idea here is to choose one of the techniques from the past year that you missed out on.  I chose Make It Monday #13:  Impression Plate Tricks #2 presented by Erin Lincoln.
